Just Do It

We worry so much about waiting for the right time and the right place to pursue our dream that we end up doing nothing.  There will always be a reason for you not pursue what you are passion about.  They key is to just go out and do it.  And do it again. And again.  Create a habit or pursuing what you love doing every day.  Set time aside and master it.  When we put our dream on a pedestal and view it as out of reach, we never take the steps we need to get there.  It is not important that your work is perfect, the important thing is to just do it, regularly.

Steven Pressfield discussed this concept in his book, The War of Art:

“I hadn’t written anything good.  It might be years before I would, if I ever did at all.  That didn’t matter.  What counted was that I had, after years of running from it, actually sat down and done my work.” “…The professional has learned better.  He respects Resistance.  He knows if he caves today, no matter how plausible the pretext, he’ll be twice as likely to cave tomorrow.”

Resistance makes its way into our lives more than we all can recognize.  The best way to fight it is to take action and implement the healthy habit of just sitting down and doing the work.  What are you being called to do?  Sit down and get after it.  It’s not important that it is good or bad right away, it’s that you are taking the steps toward where you are being called to be.  Sit down and get to work. Take a step.

Be the tortoise, not the hare.
