Relationships. We seem to spend so much time worrying about work, money, and what we are doing tomorrow that we can forget to appreciate what is right in front of us: family and close relationships. If you talk to people on their death bed, they don’t say, “man I wish I put in more billable hours at the office during.” No. It’s usually something like, “I wish I spent more quality time with my kids in their younger years,” or “I wish I had kept in touch with my friends from college,” or “I wish I took the time to travel more with my family.” I wish I did a better job of not “sweating the small stuff.”
We can get so caught up in our work and routine that we forget why we are working in the first place. To have more time and freedom to do what we want, when we want, with whom we want.
It’s not just family we neglect. Are you spending time with people that challenge you in a healthy way and make you better? We must be intentional about who we spend our time with. What do you want to accomplish? Are you setting time aside to build relationships with people who have already accomplished what you are trying to accomplish? You’re time in finite. Spend it on things that matter most: Your relationships.
